The red-bellied piranha is a carnivorous fish found in the rivers and lakes of the Amazon Basin in South America. It has a distinctive red underbelly, with sharp teeth and a powerful bite. Known for its schooling behavior, it feeds primarily on fish, insects, and plants, sometimes scavenging for carcasses.
Despite its reputation, the red-bellied piranha plays an important role in keeping aquatic ecosystems healthy by controlling fish populations and helping with decay by scavenging. While generally abundant, it faces threats from overfishing and habitat destruction.
Piranhas fishing is one of the highlights activities that we do In our excursions, Tamshiyacu Tahuayo Comual Reserve is very rich for fishig since has many lakes In the area, Corrientillo lake is our perfect spot for doing that, once we are already fishig we have the chance to catch any type of fish like brycos, peacock bass,Oscar fish, etc.
