HORNED SCREAMER (Anhima cornuta)

The horned screamer (Anhima cornuta) is a large, waterfowl species native to the Amazon and  basins of South America, particularly in Brazil, Peru Colombia, and Venezuela. It is easily recognizable by the long, curved horn on its head, made of keratin, and its large, robust body. The bird has grayish-brown feathers and a striking white wing patch. Known for its loud, piercing calls, which can be heard over long distances, the horned screamer is a territorial species.

Horned screamers are herbivores, feeding on aquatic plants, seeds, and fruits found in wetlands and marshy areas. They are typically found near water and are strong swimmers. Despite facing threats from habitat loss and human disturbance, they are currently classified as Least Concern.

Horned screamers are cosidered endagared specie around peruvian amazonia but around our lodge is is a rich eviromentaly área, there is a lot of them that is very easy to spot them a very close distance from the boat.
