Our Excursions in The Amazon
BIRDWATCHING in iquitos
Peru and the Peruvian Amazon jungle are privileged places for lovers of ornithology, birdwatching and photography. Our country is home to 20% of the world's bird population and has become the world leader with the greatest diversity of birds in the world, surpassing Colombia, reaching a record of 1,879 species. The Peruvian Amazon jungle is home to more than 1,800 species of birds. In Peru, 106 species of endemic birds are recorded, that is, they are only found here. The location of Curassow Lodge on the banks of the Yanayacu River allows the traveler to observe several of these, including the rare Piurí (Crax globlulosa), the prehistoric bird called Shansho (hoatzin), toucans, falcons, hummingbirds, parrots, macaws, jacanas and more. With your private guide you will explore the rivers and lagoons, you will walk the trails in the middle of the primary jungle to see up close the enormous wealth of birds that this remote part of the Peruvian Amazon houses. We recommend taking a tour of at least 5 days, to have the opportunity to observe as many birds as possible.

HIKING IN PRIMARY JUNGLE
Just a step away from your bungalow, the jungle awaits you! The Tamshiyacu - Tahuayo Communal Reserve, a natural paradise that awaits you with open arms, exploring its paths is one of our most popular excursions because there is a variety of exotic fauna that includes macaws, sloth, monkeys, snakes, capybaras, giant otters and more. An impressive view is offered by the imposing “Ceiba”, a tree that can reach up to 10 meters in diameter and 30 meters high. This Communal Reserve located in the heart of the Peruvian jungle is a testimony of the beauty and importance of preserving our natural ecosystems. With every step you take, you will be walking on land that is home to an incomparable wealth of flora and fauna, many of which are unique species. Every corner tells a fascinating story of coexistence and adaptation. As we explore, we encourage you to open your senses to the melodious sounds of exotic birds, absorb the vibrant colors of flowers, and feel the fresh humidity of the air that envelops the jungle. Additionally, you will be walking along trails that have been carefully preserved to minimize our impact on this fragile ecosystem.

Around Curassow there are 2 riverside communities, Ayacucho of Tiphisca and San Juan of Yanayacu, where you can witness their way of life and customs. We suggest travelers visit any of these communities and when possible, purchase some products such as bracelets, necklaces, woven bags and other handmade crafts to support the local economy. Visiting these villages will also allow the traveler to learn about the social activities that Curassow Amazon Lodge are doing for the development of the communities (economic, educational and infrastructure support). Posted on Anna SVerified Wonderful experience! We had a wonderful stay at Curassow Amazon Lodge. Everything was very well organized, with private guides, delicious freshly cooked meals, and comfortable accommodation equipped with mosquito nets. We were looked after by two guides, Flavio and Iván, and we felt safe and truly cared for the entire time. Flavio shared fascinating information (he speaks both english and spanish) about jungle life, the local animals, and stories from his own experiences. Iván even made a plant fan for me to help keep the mosquitoes away 🥹 We mentioned that seeing a sloth was our dream—and we ended up seeing one three times! Plus many, many other animals. You really need to experience this place yourself. We’re so happy we chose this lodge among all the available options!Posted on Elena CVerified Best experience ever in the Amazon I just spent 5 days at Curassow Amazon Lodge and honestly, it was pure magic. Forget the pictures, because being there is something else entirely—so peaceful, totally unplugged, and the jungle sounds are insane. We booked a 5-day stay and it flew by. While the lodge itself is cozy and super clean, the whole vibe comes down to the people. Our main guide, Alex, was brilliant. He made every outing feel like a real adventure and his knowledge about the wildlife (and how to spot them!) was next level. We saw sloths, caimans, monkeys—you name it. Big shoutout also to Jeremiah, who was our driver; he kept us safe on the water and was always smiling. And Martin and the entire lodge team (the chefs, the boat guys, everyone!) kept us so well-fed and taken care of the whole time. It felt more like staying with family than at a resort. Also they organised the best birthday party ever for my best friend which was a surprise for her but oh my what a party that was. Thank you everyone for all the wonderful memories, work and the best time ever. If you’re looking for an authentic Amazon experience where you feel totally comfortable and learn a ton, you have to book here. Seriously, I miss waking up there already. Huge thanks to the whole team for making it a trip I’ll never forget. Five stars isn't enough! And the most important and funny “person “ there is little Juliano who is the heart of the lodge. Posted on B MVerified Trip of a lifetime Our stay at Curassow Lodge was very special. It was an absolutely sensational experience in every sense of the word! Every excursion is a new adventure, where we got to see the rainforest from a new perspective. Be it watching troops of monkeys leap across the tree tops, to admiring countless little frogs, right by the boat, filling the darkness with noises you could never expect from such tiny creatures. Just being there, in the middle of the Amazon, is a truly special thing. Our guide, Flávio of the Jungle, and Jeremy were outstanding. Flávio’s knowledge and experience made our trip what it was… we really enjoyed learning from him, and talking about anything and everything while on the boat. Some of the different wildlife Jeremy spotted, while also driving the boat, was actually hard to comprehend… not to mention his fishing skills! Watching Flávio and Jeremy work together was one of the highlights of our trip.. we are very grateful that they have chosen to use their skills to help the rest of us appreciate one of the most special places we have on this planet. Cesar was also a fantastic host, and thanks to Martín for organising our luggage and transport when we got back to Iquitos… it gave us a chance to relax with a drink and reflect on a truly special experience. Thanks everyone. Brendan and KatePosted on Matt JVerified There's a reason Amazon - starts with AMAZ'ing! * * * * * Well! My experience at Curassow was simply sensational. It was everything I wanted and more. Travelling solo - I was well looked after by everyone and my guide and boat captain were so focused on me experiencing everything the Amazon had to offer. Flavio and Jeremy went above and beyond their duty to make sure everything was perfect for me. Flavio in particular was so passionate about the Amazon - but also demonstrated his ability to find animals in the wild at will. The amount of times he spotted creatures as we moved at speed - and then I struggled to find them even with his laser pointer showing me the way (but I alawys spotted them eventually) - he was incredible and such a lovely soul as well... If you want 5 star - this isn't for you - but it was very, very, very comfortable and the program well thought out and at the end of the day - such great value for money. Whether it was night walks in the jungle, fishing for and eating Piranha or swimming in the Amazon (not at the same time).... every outing blew me away. There's hectic times for sure - when you want the animals early in the morning or late at night - but there's plenty of time to kick back in a hammock overlooking the water. Thank you to Martin who runs the lodge and the whole crew. Loved it!!!Posted on Andrea FVerified Jungle tour The place, the staff, the guides are all very good, we spent there 4 days and did 3 excursions a day, we saw a lot of animals and the rain forest with a very expert guide. I’m very satisfy, excellent experience!Posted on Kiara YVerified Solo trip Viaje sola y me quedé por 6 días no pude escoger mejor lugar, al ambiente es muy cómodo y el personal realmente te hacen sentir muy cómoda todo el tiempo son todos amables y respetuosos, me voy con mucho cariño por el lugar y definitivamente voy a volverPosted on christos tVerified 5D/4N STAY IN AMAZON LODGE An amazing 5d/4n stay in curassow lodge in Amazon jungle , the room was spacious for 2 indivduals , the bed sheets and towels were clean and the food was delicious, there were vegetarian options. Plenty of activities are available during the day and the night, particularly there are excursion by boat in the morning and in the night for animals observation and jungle exploration , furthermore there are hikes in the jungle during the day and during the night for nocturnal animals observation. All the staff of the lodge is extraordinary polite and very helpful. Antonio our guide is a nice guy , speaks fluent English and Spanish, has the ability to find out animals even in the dark , recognises the different species of the animals , he is an expertise in the the flora and fauna of the Amazon ecosystem , refers to each animal with its scientific term , as well with the name has been given by the local people.Posted on Ylenia VVerified Immersive Amazon experience with outstanding guides My sister and I had a fantastic stay at Curassow Amazon Lodge during the dry season (early September). Our private guide, Flavio “de la selva,” was not only an excellent wildlife and environment expert but also a truly kind and knowledgeable person. We explored the jungle both by boat, thanks to our skilled driver Jorli, and on foot, which gave us a perfect mix of perspectives. The lodge, run by Martin and his family, was clean, comfortable, and beautifully set along the riverbank. Their lovely rescued cat, Ben, was always there to greet us after excursions, adding a heartwarming, personal touch. The entire staff was wonderful and always attentive. A special thanks goes to Erik, the housekeeper, and to Roosevelt, the cook, who thoughtfully accommodated our vegan diet and served hearty, flavorful meals (our only small suggestion would be to include more plant-based proteins, such as legumes). We highly recommend Curassow Amazon Lodge to anyone seeking tailor-made activities, private guiding, and a peaceful, authentic Amazon experience.Posted on Richard vHVerified Top plek om tot rust te komen en te genieten van de Amazone Van de eerste e-mail tot het moment van afscheid word je volledig ontzorgt. De gidsen zijn perfect en gezellig in ons geval Alex de gids en Benny de schipper. We komen zeker een keer terug.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
