OUR NAME
In honor of the Piurí, Crax Globulosa or Wattled Curassow in English, is an endangered bird. The species is one of the largest birds in the Amazon rainforest and has characteristics similar to those of the domestic peacock. They were so abundant in the Amazon that they lived with chickens in the villages.
They were easily hunted by the villagers, their excessive consumption became more common every day due to the increase in population, until they were believed to be extinct 60 years ago.
Today, thanks to our conservation programs together with the communities of the Tamshiyacu – Tahuayo Reserve, we have managed to ensure that this species could be seen again in our area near the Lodge.
Spot the rare Wattled Curassow (Crax globulosa)! This magnificent bird, was once feared extinct. Explore the Peruvian Amazon rainforest with us and see these incredible creatures for yourself.
